sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg "Want to autoconfigure?" "Yes" "No X server known for your video hardware" There is either no video hardware installed on this machine (e.g. serial console only), or the "discover" program was unable to determine which X server is appropriate for the video hardware.
Then it asks all kinds of really technical questions which I'm not really sure of. The first question was the X server driver to use. I tried both vesa and i810 (with all "defaults" or what I thought was sensible after that) and none of those worked. "uname -a" shows 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Apr 15 ... i686 "lspci -n" prints a very long list of hex numbers but piping to "more" doesnt work so I can't really see what it says. Also my wi-fi is also not working so I'd really be force to write down everything with a pencil if you need it. Also my keyboard layout isn't the normal one so I have to keep looking for where each key is located. This is reeeeally annoying lol. Even if I do fix the keyboard layout, and then fix wi-fi so I can do the lspci and get the data out of there, and then post it here and you fix the bug and my gfx card works.. if all that magically happened; I'm wondering if my fingerprint reader and the bluetooth etc will work properly. This Linux thing is definately not for grandmothers lol, but I will stick with it if you think you can actually make some progress with the data I provide. It's getting late, I have to sleep now. I will most the data later if I can find a way to get it out of the box without writing it down on paper. -- Live CD fails to boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130033 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
