I cannot recall where I saw the reference, but there is some known problem with the Nvidia nouveau packages; apparently, switching to Nvidia current would fix this. I have actually stopped using that version of Lubuntu with Firefox & Thunderbird. The HDD was wiped, and a lightweight remix of 12.04 from Remastersys with the Equinox desktop (EDE) and the pekwm window manager was installed. Personal files were reinstalled from back-up, of course. :) http://www.remastersys.com/forums/index.php?topic=2345.0 The X-server just freezing does not occur in this distro.
