As you can see from my original report the problem I had was raised on Fri Sep 14 17:30:16 2012. It has not occurred recently and I can only assume that it is no longer a problem (possibly because of updates to libreoffice or Ubuntu 12.04 LTS or the Launcher. Who knows?). So I'm happy that the bug is being closed and even more happy with the performance and stability of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Unity now. As an aside I have noticed that the increasing use of Javascripts in many webpages are slowing down browsers. Thumbs up to the NoScript extension to Firefox.
