Do you still have this problem on Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) or with the
latest gutsy live CD?

If you still have the problem please provide the following information:
1. Open a terminal and enter the following commands:
 $ cat /proc/bus/input/devices > ~/proc_bus_input_devices
 $ xmodmap -pp > ~/xmodmap-pp
 $ xev | grep -i button | tee ~/xev_grep-i_button
 Put the mouse cursor into the rectangle and push your mouse buttons.
2. Attach your ~/proc_bus_input_devices, /var/log/Xorg.0.log, ~/xmodmap-pp and 
~/xev_grep-i_button to this bug report.
3. Include the minimal information as described here: 
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies to the bug report.
