Ubuntu's upstream for this package is Debian, who removed the package
altogether in 2011.  They have new builds from upstream 3.0.0 but there
is currently no stable version.  Once one appears, it should not be too
hard to convince the Ubuntu maintainers to do a simple merge.

In the meantime, your best bet may be to install the packages from
Debian testing.
