Public bug reported:

While updating the gnome-app-install package on Edgy, the configure step
fails because the DISPLAY environment variable is set, but the X server
is not reachable.

This is a copy of the response:
----
$ LANG=C sudo dpkg --configure gnome-app-install
Setting up gnome-app-install (0.2.11) ...
The application 'update-app-install' lost its connection to the display
localhost:10.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed the application.
dpkg: error processing gnome-app-install (--configure):
 subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 gnome-app-install
----

If the DISPLAY variable is "unset", the package can be configured (with
just a few Gtk warnings.)
