Though I'm not from Ubuntu clan (so I'm not reopening bug), I do have the same problem on Linux 3.4.58 i686. My adapter is AR9285 (EEE PC 1215b)
When I do `ifconfig wlp1s0 up`, I get [98739.884046] ath: phy0: Chip reset failed [98739.884050] ath: phy0: Unable to reset hardware; reset status -22 (freq 2462 Mhz) Just to note - last time I used wireless mouse (static USB electricity lol), but two times it occured on its own (in three days).
