A reviewer suggested hitting random keys to get it functional. I found that pressing "r" will get it to show the primary view. Pressing "k" will start joystick calibration mode (doesn't seem to be a way to cancel it if you don't have joystick). Some of the cockpit controls will individually become visible if you adjust them with the keyboard.
