Greetings. My firefox also freezes the entire system and creates near-horizontal bars on the screen. My graphic card is NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6150SE nForce 430] (rev a2) exactly the same as Francisco Stefano Wechsler's and Jacques Belin's graphic cards. Actually I am using antix 13.1 and not ubuntu :-) And I am not reporting a bug :-) But when I google "GeForce 6150SE linux crash" or "GeForce 6150SE firefox crash" this page comes up high, and I suspect that more than a few GeForce models cause the same problem (please google), so I'd like to share my half-solutions here. My apologies if this is inappropriate in this forum.
A fresh install of antix 13.1 works fine. However the symptoms described by Greg Supina begin to appear once libgl1-mesa-dri is installed. These symptoms go away if " nouveau.modeset=0" is appended to the kernel line in grub's menu.lst , as suggested by http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=435313 However the resolution is reduced to 1024x768. These symptoms also go away if " nouveau.noaccel=1" is appended to the kernel line in grub's menu.lst , as suggested by http://gentoo-en.vfose.ru/wiki/Nouveau Resolution is high (1920x1080) and there are no more crashes. However, vlc full screen freezes X but ctrl-alt-backspace can kill X. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1176062 Title: System usually crashes when starting Firefox and/or Thunderbird To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1176062/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
