Lots of background noise whenever turning up the volume. I tried this on Ubuntu 13.04 also, no luck. I got this same problem after trying out multiple distros on the same PC. I don't get this problem in Windows 7 Ultimate at all.
I followed this article to uninstall PulseAudio http://www.hecticgeek.com/2012/01/how-to-remove-pulseaudio-use-alsa-ubuntu-linux/ still no help.
