I had a similar issue; however, my '/' file system in reality only had around 7% of a 200GB partition full. I mention "in reality", because df reported that 0 blocks were free and it was 100% full !?! After lots of dinking around to delete old linux images and rebooting, it eventually and for no apparent reason started to properly show the free space... Rebooting again to get rid of the "overflow" /tmp, then everything proceeded OK...
