For me too, sound was low on an ASUS P5GZ-MX. 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01) I had to bought a cheap audio amplifier for sound to be loud enough. But I was earing it, although low volume before. I note that my audio amplifier have 4 ohm impedance, and earplug generally have 32 ohms I think.
