Hello Raymond,
you speak outside my Knowledge Base, so pardon me
if I am uncertain as to what you are saying.
It sounds to me as if you are suggesting that HDMI
Sound is being produced, but not finding it's way out.
(What is ELD? ; what is "jack detect"? ; what is
EDID? , and where do I find them ?)

No, I have not enabled "radeon. audio=1" (likewise
where do I do that?)
Beyond running dignostic programs, I have not yet
changed any settings simply because I have not found under "troubleshooting"
any sufficiently relevant and simple ways of using the results.

But, it is NOT the case that I am asking my
computer for sound which it does not want to give me.
Rather that simply does NOT give me the option of
asking for it in the first place.

Both "lspci" and "aplay" list the device (as
under) but it does not appear in the "Sound" window under "System
Settings"
