The ubuntu-desktop *is* Unity and a selection of associated packages. If you want a custom Ubuntu desktop without Unity, remove the ubuntu- desktop package, then install whatever other packages you want to use instead. That's how easy it is. It is not a bug that it works this way. It's what "working correctly" looks like.
A second alternative is to install one of the Ubuntu flavours (Kubuntu, Xubuntu, etc) so you're starting with a Ubuntu desktop system that does not have the ubuntu-desktop package installed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1232301 Title: Removing Unity also removes ubuntu-desktop To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1232301/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
