Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. There isn't a Desktop Effects entry in the preferences
menu in gutsy, it only can be activated trough the Appearance entry, is
this a fresh gutsy installation or an upgrade?

"Desktop Effects" only works from the "Apperences" dialog (or by hand)
