Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox
scim does not works with 32bit firefox on ubuntu AMD64 I installed 32bit firefox on ubuntu 7.04 AMD64 to make flash player and java plugin work, it seems all the plugins work fine, but the big problem is that scim does not work. When I execute 32bit firefox, it complains that: (firefox-bin:21563): Gtk-WARNING **: /usr/lib32/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodules /im-scim.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory (firefox-bin:21563): Gtk-WARNING **: Loading IM context type 'scim' failed First I tried to export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim then executed firefox. It quieted and scim panel appeared, but I can't change to any input method rather that "English/European", so I still could type English only. What I want is to make chewing work, which is a Chinese input method on scim. Then I extracted `ia32-libs-scim` package in edgy repository and put the shared objects to /usr/lib32 and firefox saied "Segment fault(core dumped)". (There's no ia32-libs-scim package in feisty repository, I don't know why.) I also tried to use i386 version `libscim8c2a` and `scim-gtk2-immodule` packages in feisty i386 repository, but firefox still core dumped. I wonder if ubuntu can put an ia32-firefox into ubuntu AMD64 repository for convenience because there are too many problems to work with 64bit firefox. There's no sun-java plugin for 64bit firefox and blackdown is too old (ver 1.4.2). There's no adobe flash player for 64bit firefox and GPL flash nearly no use. NSPluginwrapper works with flash player but it's unstable and it does not work on some websites. For example, http://www.wretch.cc uses a flash media player like the one in youtube but nspluginwrapper-flash does not work with wretch.cc player. Furthermore, nspluginwrapper does not support java plugin. Gentoo already provides a 32bit firefox in there repository for a long time, I hope ubuntu can provides it as well. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: firefox - - https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bugs scim does not works with 32bit firefox on ubuntu AMD64 I installed 32bit firefox on ubuntu 7.04 AMD64 to make flash player and java plugin work, it seems all the plugins work fine, but the big problem is that scim does not work.
