Public bug reported:
I booted the Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) desktop install CD with no
problem. Once Gnome started, I got a complaint that something had
crashed. Clicking the icon that this warning came from, I discovered
that /usr/bin/id did it. I opened up a terminal and typed "id". This
returned "Segmentation fault (core dumped)". This is very serious.
