Public bug reported: When opening a package for an architecture which is not in the set printed by 'dpkg --print-foreign-architectures', Software Center simply shows an error:
Wrong architecture 'xxx'. This then leaves it up to the user to search the web and struggle with the command line to figure out how to enable support for the foreign architecture. It would be better if Software Center provided a simple way to do so. This would likely end up running something like 'sudo dpkg --add-architecture xxx ; sudo apt-get update' behind the scenes (note that the 'apt-get update' is necessary to get that architecture's list of packages so dependencies can then be resolved). Now this would mostly be useful for the 'i386' architecture for which support is enabled by default, at least on x86_64 Ubuntu (but I'm not sure about the derivatives). So maybe this makes this issue moot. But presumably this issue could also arise with other architectures. ** Affects: software-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1236488 Title: software-center should offer to enable support for foreign architecture if needed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/1236488/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
