Public bug reported:
I cannot increase the backlight on my Acer 5102WMLi laptop to full
brightness.
The brightness of the backlight appears to stop at approximately 50%,
although this is just a guess. If you increase the brightness during the
boot process, you can successfully reach full backlight brightness and
it will stay like this as long as you do not attempt to increase or
decrease the backlight brightness. If you do try to increase or decrease
the backlight brightness, the backlight immediately changes to
approximately 50%. The only way to get back to full backlight brightness
is to reboot the laptop and increase the brightness back to full
brightness during the boot process.
Steps to reproduce:
- Boot Ubuntu (Gutsy Tribe 4 or Feisty, although may also affect earlier
releases)
- Hold the Fn (Function) key and press the 'Increase brightness' key multiple
times. Notice that the brightness of the backlight only increases slightly and
you are unable to reach full brightness.
Also note:
- Once the '50% brightness' limit is reached and you attempt to increase
the brightness further, the backlight flickers as if the 'value' for the
brightness of the backlight is being set again rather than ignored.
