Doug, I think I have a fix in Gtk. I seems to work locally. I'm building a package in ppa:townsend/gtk-testing.
Do you think you can try that package out (once built/published) and see if it works for you as well? If it works well for you, then I'll propose this, but since we are at final freeze, I'll see about this being a 0 day SRU.
