I can't believe I'm reading something that stupid.

The basic rule of network engineering is not to automatically reconnect 
IMMEDIATELY and indefinitely.
But an equally basic trick of network engineering is to *do* automatically 
reconnect AFTER A SMALL TIME (e.g. a few seconds) and up to a LIMITED NUMBER OF 
TIMES.

FTP clients do that,  email clients often do that, most any-kind-of-
network-software clients do that, and it is especially vital for a video
streaming client.
