Public bug reported:
When booting Xubuntu on my Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook C6637 it crashes
more than half of the times at the same point in the startup sequence.
Instead of a usplash screen there is a black screen during startup. On
shutdown the splash screen is also missing. Windows2000 has run, and
still runs without problems on this computer, so the problem is not
failing hardware. If I hibernate the system it wakes without problems,
so this for now is a workaround the problem. I have tried a couple of
things, none of which have solved the problem:
- startup with the kernel option pci=assign-busses
- startup without the options quiet splash
- startup with the option vga=791 or vga=788 or vga=785 : this gives an error
message:
You passed an undefined mode number.
Press <RETURN> to see video modes available, <SPACE> to continue
or wat 30 secs
- installed the package 951resolution
