I have not reported it upstream due to time constraints (and due to the
fix I found and managed to cure my system).

Basically, if the index file of Outbox gets screwed up (out of sync),
this problem appears. The easy fix would be to zero the length of Outbox
related files every time Evolution is sure that it has succesfully sent
out all pending mail. This way, the problem would never show up.

Otherwise deleting the index file manually will do.
