Since the document is confidential that makes this more difficult.
Here are some items I would try to narrow down this issue.
Make a copy of the docoument (and maybe another backup just to be safe).
Delete half of it. See if the bug still appears, if it does then
divide in half again. If it doesn't re-copy the old document but just
delete 1/2 of it this time. Repeat until you find the minimum number of
pages that cause this.
Try to reproduce this on the Ubuntu 13.10 RC LiveCD and see if it is
still an issue.
