already looking at the last application (eg, can't go back any farther),
however it can also be caused by AP tests and other random UI fiddling.
Once it starts happening, the UI becomes unresponsive. The attached
video doesn't do it great justice, because the flicker just blurs into a
dimming effect. but when you see the screen go dim in this video, what's
really happening is this crazy flickering.
