Oracle Java is so similar to OpenJDK that it's doubtful there would be any serious hurdles. Besides, Eclipse4.3 is tested on OpenJDK 7 ( see http://www.eclipse.org/eclipse/development/readme_eclipse_4.3.html#TargetOperatingEnvironments ), so it shouldn't be an issue.
The real problem is that Eclipse has a ridiculously complicated build and deployment system that is painful to adapt to Ubuntu, and while there are some provisions for shared-user deployments with a Unixy filesystem layout, in reality upstream never tests them and they don't work very well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1019273 Title: Version Bump to 4.3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eclipse/+bug/1019273/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
