Also I forgot to mention I didn't install the 1.54 version after
removing it, but installed 'libboost-all-dev' which seems to still
contain the older 1.53 files.

I think the issue is caused by some packages depending on the libboost-
all-dev package and because of that the 1.53 version cannot be removed
and thus the 1.54 cannot be installed.

I possible fix would be to push the 1.54 version to the libboost-all-dev
package. This should fix the dependancy issues.
