Thank you very much Pascal for all the help you provided so far. Let's focus on understanding the very root of the kernel problem (the "piix" problem) so that it can be properly fixed in Gutsy before release. I've learned many new things about Linux just from trying to get Ubuntu started on this new laptop. I kind of enjoy trying to figure out what the problem is.
Now, the fact that I can boot makes things so much easier. But the initial problems are still now solved. Many other people will buy the same laptop model as I did and they should not have to go through this. My next question is: obviously this "all_generic_ide" boot option is doing something really good. How can I find out exactly what "all_generic_ide" does? Does it load some extra modules, if so; where can I see the list of additional modules (then I ran try them one by one too see which module it is that actually makes my machine tick). So, how can I find out the "source code" for "all_generic_ide"? Is it in a grub config file? Or inside BusyBox or what? -- Live CD fails to boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130033 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
