Public bug reported:
This is my first or second update after a (very smooth!) upgrade to
Kubuntu 13.10. The updates icon appeared in the System Tray, I clicked
and the new muon-updater appeared, offering ~90MB of updates. When I
clicked to install I got the common prompt about additional packages
(kernel ones in this case), I confirmed that.
It started downloading. The window looked a little strange (see attached
screenshot), the items in the [More...v] menu were grayed out, but it
seemed OK so I went back to playing GTA V :)
Many hours and deaths later I returned to find the updater window looked
more or less unchanged (see attached), it's at "Loading Software List"
which is I think where it was hours before. No progress indicated.
According to `ps -alx -w -w` the muon-updaer process is stuck in

/usr/bin/muon-updater
I ran `sudo strace -p` and it's occasionally reading and writing to fd 3 and
stuck on recvfrom 7 (a socket). I'll attach the strace. The fds are:

But it looks like the update actually did complete. /var/log/dpkg.log has a
bunch of "status installed" packages from an hour or so after I started the
update, the last one is
2013-10-26 04:41:23 status installed initramfs-tools:all 0.103ubuntu1.1
and there's a yellow [^o] "A System Restart is required" icon is in the system
tray. So I think the update did complete OK, muon-updater just isn't showing
it. I clicked the yellow restart icon and nothing happened.
