Conclusion: It is a problem specific to Ubuntu - Moving the drive that has the instance of Ubuntu that is failing to another machine, works fine. Conclusion: It is sensitive to hardware configuration - CHANGING THE ORDER OF MOUNTS in fstab, fixed the problem for me!.
