I've managed to fix this by extracting the feisty live cd to a partition then booting into it via grub, BUT FIRST I UNPLUG MY CD ROM DRIVE.
Then i can install and use it, but if i plug my cd rom drive back in and try to boot into feisty i get the same error. So i can now have feisty with no cd rom drive or no feisty at all.
