Purging gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 and gstreamer1.0-fluendo-mp3 and reinstalling libmad0 appears to have fixed it in 14.04 as i said downgrading gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 to 0.10.15.debian-1ubuntu1 solved this issue on my 13.10 install
