This problem still exists in latest Firefox (25.0), but I got a
workaround (NOT by disabling global-menu):

I invoked the Unity's HUD menu shortcut (by pressing the Alt key) at the
first time I opened Firefox, then typed something on it just so that the
HUD loads all Firefox menu. Then closed the HUD and back to Firefox
window then I got all menus (including my huge bookmarks, history, etc)
can be opened normally (quickly).

So I suggest to the firefox-global-menu-addon developer/team to
implement some kind of PRELOADING for Firefox menus whenever it is
started.

PS: Sorry for my Engrish :)))
