Public bug reported: HDF5 < 1.8.12 has a bug thet breaks support for long doubles when the lib is compiled with gcc 4.8 (see also [1]). The issue has been foxed in debian [1] and including that patch should be trivial. Please sync the HDF5 package with the debian package version 1.8.11-4.
