I'm also having the same problem. I have a Foxconn C51XEM2AA Motherboard
(AM2 nForce 590 SLI) and an A64 X2 4600+ (Socket AM2). I also compiled
my own 2.6.17 kernel with the beyond3 patchset, and enabled SMP support.

I also installed the latest nVidia driver, the 8774. When I enable SLI
in the xorg.conf i can login through kdm fine, but once I get into KDE I
can do things only for a few seconds before the whole machine locks up.

Let me know if I should include any logs and where to retrieve them
from.
