It's still a problem on Precise, even with the raring kernel.

With the default mtu=1500, simple browsing works _but_ NBD and NFS
mounts don't work at all (e.g. for NBD, negotiation is fine, but it
hangs if you actually try to read from /dev/nbd0).

By setting mtu=1492, everything works.
