Unfortunately I realized this issue is not constant. Stay assured that before posting the bugreport I did several restart cycles of all potentially affected devices (router, modem, laptop,...) and checked with different hardware etc that it is not a ISP problem. However, since for a few days now the issue has not returned. I am getting decent wifi speed on N and G networks alike. As soon as the issue reoccurs I will do the test Brad suggests.
