Hello Charles, Sorry for the short reply - I have just had an operation and can't sit down at my PC at the moment.
I think you are right about the root FS. It did get full and the upgrade to 13.10 failed. I had to clear the apt package cache and then it was ok. I'm not aware of any other errors in dmesg though. There were some udev related errors but I have fixed those with help from Google! The system is working fine now. Let me know if you need to know anything else. Simon.
