Hi Ryan,
I do not have a problem with the microphone inputs now, and GAMix is
happy with with the sound-chip.

It all looks good....
Thanks for the work. I reported the bug mainly for information purposes,
as I have various PCs here and so I have workarounds.
Best regards, Simon

Hi Simon,
Are you still affected by this bug? For me this chip has worked fine in
Maverick (Ubuntu 10.10) and every subsequent release. If it's the same
for you then I think we can close the bug. If you still have this
problem in the current Ubuntu release, that would also be important to
know.

Title:
VIA VT1708B microphone Recording problem
Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Neither front nor back microphones work reliably.
Gnome-alsamixer crashes with:
(gnome-alsamixer:2673): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **:
g_type_instance_get_private: assertion `instance != NULL && instance->g_class
!= NULL' failed
(gnome-alsamixer:2673): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **:
g_type_instance_get_private: assertion `instance != NULL && instance->g_class
!= NULL' failed
Segmentation fault
*******************
Gamix seems to give access to the sound chip, but does not actually control
the microphones.
I have had some sound come from the microphone at times, but with a lot of
background.
