Sorry Christopher, I did not see your question.
Yes it probably did not work on Precise either (except for during installation
where I took a picture of myself successfully). This was probably one of the
reasons I upgraded to Quantal - to see if it was fixed.
Something must have changed between Debian Squeeze - Wheezy, which would put it
around 2011/2012.
