"I need to specify --authgroup XXX where XXX is NOT one of the valid
options listed in the response from the sever. The server probably
shouldn't be setup that way, but it's not under my control."

Does this server work with the Cisco AnyConnect clients, or only
OpenConnect?

Perhaps it breaks on Cisco clients that use XML POST, like AnyConnect
Linux 3.1.00495 or AnyConnect Windows 3.0.08057? AFAIK the Cisco
clients can only send an authgroup name that is in the dropdown list.

"Is there a fix coming for the network-manager-openconnect so that I can
connect via the GUI and know VPN status?"

I prototyped a fix for libopenconnect; I'll submit to the openconnect-
devel list this weekend if all goes well. It requires an API change.
