Public bug reported:
I like keep system beeps in gnome disabled. Occasionally -- mostly after
a system crash -- gnome seems to forget the settings for the system
beep, re-enabling it.
Interestingly, when this occurs, the "Enable system beep" checkbox , in
gnome-sound-properties, _WILL_ be unchecked. Checking it and unchecking
solves the problem.
I'm on feisty (7.04); gnome-control-center version is 2.18.1-0ubuntu.
