I just upgraded from Raring to Saucy (actually a mint user), I also have the VL80x USB3.0 chipset on my EVGA Z68 FTW motherboard. In raring the USB 3.0 was flakey, a usb3.0 device had to be connected at boot time, for it work, USB 2.0 worked without any issues on that controller. Since the upgrade I could not USB 2.0 or 3.0 to work on the Via Contoller (USB 3.0 ports). It was completly unresponsive. I came across this bug, and tried what Christopher suggested.
I installed 3.12-Saucy (http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.12-saucy/). Since I have installed the 3.12 kernel, the Via VL80x controller works perfectly. It even fixed the annoying softlock cpu0 error I was getting at boot time. *warning* If you have an nvidia GPU, after installing the kernel, it could not build the kernel module for the driver, I had to install the xorg-edgers ppa; https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa and install the nvidia 331 driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1050352 Title: [Gigabyte P55A-UD4] External USB 3.0 hard drive randomly disconnects and connects To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1050352/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
