Looks like you have run into the infamous  CPU frequency issue.

Solution is to make sure you are running with high quality AC power.

Workaround is to edit /etc/default/grub

Find the following line and add processor.ignore_ppc=1
so it looks like this:

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash processor.ignore_ppc=1"

then    
  sudo update-grub && sudo reboot.
