I cannot reproduce step 8, fresh installation of Ubuntu GNOME 13.10
(from the DVD, not from apt-get install ubuntu-gnome-desktop). I also
noticed (but maybe a completely unrelated bug) that when the screen is
locked it also turns off, even when the settings say that it should
remain on (displaying the clock and notifications).
