No, you need to NOT have removed the settings submenu, as it was more convenient to access OTHER settings controls without launching the settings manager. How do I restore it? There are several programs not showing int the settings manager GUI that I'd prefer on the menu (such as KDE or GNOME applications.) They appear nowhere in the manager or menus, including the "main menu" editor. I know I can use terminal or Synapse to launch them, IF I remember the commands, but a nice little unobtrusive submenu rather than the settings manager GUI window is more to my preference. I believe this new way is more like "Unity" than it is the way I'd like to do things in Ubuntu.
