Does this still occur for you? On my machine (trusty) it is resolved.
I just looked at the raw messages like this (as described in this bugreport

bzr branch lp:friends
cd friends
./tools/debug_slave.py | grep "&"
I found some tweets that contain this. However, they were displayed fine
in the friends-app (as expected & is valid HTML).
