Public bug reported: I'm Chinese and I do know how necessary encoding conversion is for Japanese and Chinese people.
However, as pointed out by another Japanese Debian developer, ack is pretty much useless today: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=662114 There is a more viable open source project also want to use the name ack: http://beyondgrep.com/ The above tool is currently referred as ack-grep in Debian/Ubuntu. It should be referred as ack as in many other OS/distribution. As Ubuntu has command-not-found enabled by default, people may type "ack", install this package and get confused. ** Affects: ack (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ack (Debian) Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #662114 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=662114 ** Also affects: ack (Debian) via http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=662114 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Description changed: I'm Chinese and I do know how necessary encoding conversion is for Japanese and Chinese people.
