i now tried for several hours to update the bios.
the windows 7 repair disk didn't execute the bios exe.

i did several tries with freedos and read around the internet.

is it really essential to update the bios, the changelog is here:
"What does it fix? 
Update CPU micro code to fix video issue."

i unpacked the exe and it looks like i need a x64 windows as indicated
on the download page, at least if i want to flash it with the included
flash utility.
