Christopher, I think it is not necessary to test "latest" firmware.
Current Centrino-2030 firmware in Precise is byte-to-byte identical to
one from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/trusty/+source/linux-
firmware/1.119/+files/linux-firmware_1.119.tar.gz

md5sum /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-2030-6.ucode

Also, I've encountered this issue with wide range of kernels: 3.2.x,
